Cape Town

Cape Town gets compared to San Francisco and Sydney by people who have not been to Cape Town. It is better than both. Table Mountain sits behind the city like a cathedral. The Atlantic and the Indian Ocean meet an hour south. Stellenbosch and Franschhoek pour world-class wine forty minutes east.

A week is the minimum. Three days in the city, two in the winelands, two along the Garden Route. Rent a car — the driving here is easy and the coastal roads are a reward in themselves.
