About Lalibela.
Lalibela is the one we send people to when they tell us they have seen it all. Eleven churches carved downward out of living rock, still in daily use by Ethiopian Orthodox pilgrims. It is the quietest religious site we know.
Fly in via Addis Ababa. Two nights minimum. Go at Timkat if you can — January, and it is a spectacle you will never quite describe properly.
