Tokyo has no centre and twenty centres. Every neighbourhood is its own city. You do not conquer it; you pick a corner, stay a week, and leave promising yourself you will return. Most people do.

Two weeks is a start. Mix Tokyo with a week on the Kyoto–Osaka loop, add a ryokan night in Hakone, and let us book the Shinkansen. Food reservations in the good omakases need us six weeks out — plan early.
